Wedding favors: give typical Italian products!

Don’t know what to give as wedding favors to your guests?  Here are some ideas

One of the biggest questions about marriage and about which my spouses often ask me for advice is: what can we give to our guests as a wedding favor? Very often they want a thought that is representative of the couple, but also beautiful and functional, possibly.

If you come to Italy to get married, what’s better than a greedy thought? Italy is the undisputed homeland of good food: in every corner, in every town there is its culinary specialty ready to be tasted. So, why not give these goodies to your guests? Where I work, my land, in the lakes area – between Lake Maggiore and that of Como – is full of delicacies just waiting to be discovered and tasted.

If you get married in Italy, you don’t have to think twice: a gastronomic favor with the specialties of the place where you will say “yes”.

Now I propose a selection of these delicacies, which can be packaged and then donated as wedding favors to your guests. From honey to grappa, from oil to biscuits: there are many typical products of the Lakes Area that can become a very popular gift for your guests!

Honey from Laveno Mombello – Lake Maggiore (Varese)

wedding favors honey

Honey from Laveno Mombello, a town in the province of Varese, is protected by the Varesino Honey Quality Consortium and is particularly renowned for its genuineness and a very low percentage of humidity, which prevents its degradation. Among the varieties produced in this area there are wildflower honey, acacia honey and chestnut honey, excellent to accompany cheeses, in the preparation of homemade cakes, but also to be savored naturally.

Grappa of Angera – Lake Maggiore (Varese)

wedding favors

Angera, a smiling town on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore, is home to the Rossi D’Angera Distillery since 1847, which produces quality grappa and liqueurs. A welcome gift? Grappa Riserva Personale, aged for over five years in Slavonian oak barrels. A real treat for your guests? The Altana del Borgo 1988 grappa, a vintage of Moscato only produced with a discontinuous steam alembic still and aged for over 30 years in French oak barrels.

Margheritine of Stresa – Lake Maggiore (Verbania Cusio Ossola)

wedding favors

The margheritine of Stresa are biscuits made with very soft shortcrust pastry, typical of Stresa, a town on the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore, created in 1857 by the pastry chef Pietro Antonio Bolongaro, owner of the pastry shop of the same name. The name derives from that of the future princess Queen Margherita, to whom they were offered on the occasion of her first communion, celebrated in 1857.

Olio del Lario – Lake Como

wedding favors oil

Despite being at high latitude and outside the Mediterranean habitat, Lake Como produces a high quality oil thanks to the particular microclimate deriving from the lake which mitigates the harsh winter temperatures and the fertility of the soils of morainic origin. The D.O.P. oil del Lario is obtained by crushing the fruits harvested by hand or with the aid of small mechanical shakers generally in November and cold pressing takes place within 3 days. This allows to obtain an oil of excellent quality with a very low level of acidity. The olives are pressed at the two oil mills on the lake: in Lenno on the western shore of the lake and in Bellano on the eastern shore.

Nocciolini di Canzo – Lake Como

nocciolini

Canzo is a small town in the province of Como, nestled in the Lombard Prealps, near Lake Como. Typical of this locality are nocciolini, small biscuits with a hazelnut flavor and dry amaretto, made with hazelnut flour, with the addition of whipped egg whites, sugar and aromas. They are still produced according to the artisan tradition and are recognized as a traditional agri-food product of the Region Lombardy.

IGP Terre Lariane / Domasino wine – Lake Como

Domasino wine

If you are on holiday on Lake Como, you cannot fail to taste Domasino, a fine wine that takes its name from the vineyards from the land overlooking the town of Domaso. The Terre Lariane company is committed to safeguarding the local winemaking tradition, cultivating both native vines, such as Verdesa bianca and Rosseia, and international ones such as Merlot and Sangiovese. From these grapes are born the white Domasino IGT Terre Lariane, which is characterized by its freshness and delicate floral aromas, and the red Domasino IGT Terre Lariane, with a bright ruby color, with a pleasant fragrance of red fruit.
