The steps to follow to organize a civil wedding in Italy

Do you want to plan a civil wedding in Italy, but you don’t know where to start, especially with regard to the bureaucratic part? Read my step by step how-to guide and it will be a breeze

“I want to get married in Italy!”, it is an exclamation that many foreign couples make, after perhaps having visited my country for vacation or for work. I do not say this with parochialism, but with a pinch of pride: Italy is truly a healthy bearer of beauty. In every corner, you can breathe history, art, culture and also from the landscape point of view, it lacks nothing, from mountain to sea views, passing through the lakes, of which Italy is rich. And finally, the cuisine: Italian food is truly known and appreciated all over the world. Many tourists return to Italy if only to be lucky enough to taste a plate of spaghetti with tomato sauce or the much appreciated margherita pizza, the most copied, but never equaled.

It is normal that you want to get married here, surrounded by so much beauty. But how to do it? No, I don’t mean the organization of the event: for that, just contact me and I will be happy to advise you or help you realize the ceremony you have always dreamed of.

I mean precisely at the bureaucratic level: which documents to present? Who to contact? Here is a useful step by step vademecum to get to the yes day with all the credentials, literally.

Are you a foreigner, but do you want to get married in the Bel Paese? Here are all the bureaucratic steps you need to complete, before proceeding with the organization of your civil wedding in Italy.

Choose the Municipality or the authorized venue (give a look to this page for some ideas): First of all, you need to identify the location where you want to do the wedding and check if it is authorized for civil ceremonies or only for symbolic rites (this step is to be done especially if it is a private venue, the Municipality is the designated place for excellence at civil ceremonies). Once you have verified the possibility, book the venue and pay the down payment of the fee.

Send the first documents: The first thing you will be asked for is to send a copy of your passport and birth certificate.

Complete the paperwork required in your country according to nationality: Here, depending on your country of origin, you have to complete the paperwork in your reference bureau. For this, I refer you to the Legal Paperworks page. Once you have retrieved the necessary documents, you must send them to your reference wedding planner in Italy, who will book the appointment at the consulate in Italy and all other formalities.

Choose the witnesses: At this point, you can choose your witnesses, which according to Italian law are at least two.

Pay the fee to the Municipality and / or the venue within the foreseen time frame: You had already paid the deposit, remember? Here, do not forget to pay to permanently block the location.

Present yourself in Italy in time for the latest procedures: You must plan to arrive in Italy about a week before to go to the consulate to complete the final formalities and attend 2-3 days before the ceremony in the Municipality at the No Impediment or Sworn Declaration, that is an appointment in which the document certifying that there are no legal impediments to proceed with the marriage abroad is issued. Here there will be an interpreter to provide assistance (often it is the wedding planner herself), who will be at the side of the couple even during the wedding (required by law). Now everything is ready for the civil wedding!

Do you want to get married in Italy? Now that we have completed all the paperwork relating to the bureaucratic part, we can devote ourselves to the creative part together. Call me so that I am your guardian angel, the one who will take care of everything, so that you can enjoy only the beauty of your wedding day!
