Rifugio Menaggio – Lake Como

The Menaggio refuge is located in the municipality of Plesio, in the locality of Mason del Fedee at 1,383 meters above sea level, on a hill in a very panoramic position, at the foot of the southern walls of Mount Grona. It can be reached by car, paying a ticket, and parking is also subject to a fee. The view from up there extends across the lake. One word: fabulous.

Castello di Varenna – Lake Como

On the Lecco branch, reaching Varenna, you go up to the Castello di Vezio, which is located on a promontory at the bottom of the Val d’Esino. Ancient military outpost of low medieval origin erected to defend and control the lake and the surrounding villages by the Lombard queen Teodolinda, it offers a view not to be missed, but also many legends of ghosts that are said to have inhabited the castle for centuries now.

Sacro Monte di Ghiffa – Lake Maggiore

The Sacro Monte di Ghiffa, located on Lake Maggiore, on the slopes of Mount Cargiago, 360 meters above the sea level, is made up of a baroque complex, inspired by the architectural models of the Sacri Monti of Orta and Varese. It is surrounded by a 200-hectare Nature Reserve, dotted with votive chapels. From here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful viewpoints on Lake Maggiore.

Mottarone – Lake Maggiore / Lake Orta

The Mottarone, located between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, allows you to wander with a 360 degree view from the Po Valley to the peaks of the Alps. From the top you can see the summit of Monte Rosa and seven lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Comabbio, Lake Monate, Lake Biandronno). The breathtaking views from here, therefore, are wasted.

Quarna lookout point – Lake Orta

Above the lakeside town of Omegna, at 500 meters above sea level, the village of Quarna Sopra with Belvedere is perched. Here, in fact, the view extends over Lake Orta, the plain and, on clear days, up to the Ligurian Apennines.

Madonna del Sasso – Lake Orta

Madonna del Sasso is undoubtedly the most scenic sanctuary on Lake Orta, a destination not only for pilgrims, but also for lovers looking for a spectacular place to say their yes. The interesting architectural complex includes the Churches of the Annunciation and Santa Maria Assunta, the Via Crucis and chapels, the Chapel of the Pietà, and more.
